A week after Libya was suspended from The UN Human Rights Council due to ‘gross, systematic’ violations of human rights, Damascus says it will contend for the vacant seat.
UN Watch Director Hillel Neuer: “The Assad regime runs a notorious police state that denies the Syrian people the right to free speech and freedom of assembly, jails journalists and tortures dissidents. It sponsors some of the world’s most vicious terrorist groups and has assassinated numerous journalists and opponents in Lebanon. The UN and the cause of human rights will be severely damaged if Syria’s Assad regime wins a seat.”
Mr. Neuer, I know you care. Really. I know you do. But to infer that The UN cares about ‘human rights’ is beneath you sir. Please check into UN Agenda 21 and The ICR2P and you’ll understand.
If Syria gets on The Council, North Korea may as well be given a seat.
